Chartered in August 2000, Lions Club of Melbourne Vietnamese is a special charity club in Lions International, in which all members are Vietnamese living in Melbourne.
The Club is Located in Region 201 (Australia) District V2 (South West Victoria). District V2 consists of 65 clubs, under the leader of a District Governor & cabinet.
During the last 5 years, members of the club have raised money to help homeless youths in Melbourne, individuals in needs, blind children in Vietnam, sponsor an orphan, and raised awareness of glaucoma and diabetic rectinopathy for Vietnamese elderly in Melbourne through the Lions Eye Health Project.
One of the Club’s long term projects is to help the operation & medical costs for abnormal-born children in Vietnam, in conjunction with an independent charity group in Vietnam. (see attached file for more information on this project).
The club is a non-profitable self funded club. We receive no financial support from government departments. All club funds are raised through annually run activities.
The club administration is run through annual memberships. All members are all non-paid volunteers.
The club over the years have attracted a number of young professional Vietnamese and highly regarded Vietnamese businessman and women.
Over the years, the club has provided financial sponsorship to a number of children in Vietnam who suffer from mega-colon disease (see attached flyer on the project).
The club has also provided financial assistance to a number of less fortunate Vietnamese living in Melbourne – such as those suffering from terminally ill disease, aged and frail individuals.
Over the last two years, the club has worked in partnership with the Vietnamese Community in Victoria (VCA-Vic) organising annual Children Festival at Federation Square. We will be working with the VCA-Vic again to organise this year event which is to be held on Saturday 22 September.
Over the next 2 years, the club aims to raise fund to support a number of initiatives to provide support to Vietnamese people living in Melbourne with a particular focus on the age, mentally-ill and also to provide leadership support to the younger people of the community though leadership camps.
These initiatives are proposed to run in partnership with a number of local (mainstream) organisations.
The club is hoping that it will raise enough funds to run these initiatives through its first time ever concert to be organised in late August at Melbourne City Townhall.
